Natural Ice Skating Tours in Stockholm & Sweden

Discover Sweden’s most magical winter adventure: skating on natural ice across frozen lakes, sea bays and, when conditions allow, the Stockholm archipelago.

I organise natural ice skating tours from Stockholm for adventurous travellers, friend groups and skaters who want to experience real Swedish winter away from artificial rinks or plowed tracks. The destination is part of the adventure. You do not book one fixed lake. You book the best ice I can find.

Some weeks the best ice is in or close to Stockholm. Other weeks we travel north, south, east or west to find the smoothest and most beautiful ice. I follow the best conditions.

Private 3-Day Natural Ice Skating Tour – Most Recommended

This is the best option if you want the full Swedish natural ice skating experience. A 3-day tour gives us flexibility to search for the best ice, adjust to weather, and explore different lakes or sea ice depending on conditions.

This tour is private for your group and can be adapted to your level, travel plans and wishes. It is ideal for friends, adventurous couples, team building trips, families with older children, or small groups who want a personal winter adventure.

Public / Open Group 3-Day Natural Ice Skating Tour – Most Recommended

I also offer a public / open group 3-day tours where individual guests can book a place. This is a great option if you want to join a small group instead of booking a private trip. I plan one public date first. If it sells out and conditions look good, I can add more dates. The group stays small so the tour remains personal, flexible and safe.

Private 1-Day Advanced Natural Ice Skating Tour

This full-day private tour is for people who can already skate and want to experience natural ice around Stockholm. The tour usually takes around 9 hours. We choose the destination based on the best and safest ice of the day. It can be a lake, sea bay or archipelago area, depending on conditions.

Private 1-Day Beginner Natural Ice Skating Tour

If you have no skating experience, you can book a private beginner tour. This tour is designed as an introduction to natural ice skating and is adapted to your level. Sporty beginners often learn quickly, especially with Nordic skates, which are usually easier to handle than hockey or figure skates.

For complete beginners, I recommend starting with a one-day tour before considering a multi-day adventure.

Custom Multi-Day Ice Skating Tours

If you can already skate and want a longer adventure, I can create a custom tour for 2 days, 4 days, a full week or another format. These tours are fully flexible and built around your group, fitness, dates and the ice conditions. This is a good option for experienced skaters who want to explore more of Sweden’s endless natural ice.

Why the 3-Day Tour is the Best Option

Natural ice changes all the time. Wind, snow, temperature and sea conditions can transform the ice from one day to another. That is why a 3-day tour gives us a much better chance to find unforgettable ice.

From Stockholm, we can travel in many directions to reach lakes, sea ice and archipelago areas. During the winter season, this gives us excellent flexibility. Sometimes we skate close to Stockholm. Sometimes the best adventure starts with an early drive to another part of Sweden. With three days, we are not locked to one plan. We can follow the best conditions.

Who can join?

For 3-day and custom multi-day tours, you should already know how to skate. You do not need to be an expert. If you have skated before and have normal outdoor fitness, you can usually manage it. Being comfortable with hiking 10-20 km in a day is a good reference.

For one-day beginner tours, no skating experience is required. These tours are adapted to your level and conditions.

About Me

My name is Jarda. I have been skating since childhood, first on frozen ponds in the Czech Republic where I played ice hockey with my friends, and later on the endless natural ice of Sweden.

I moved to Sweden in 2012 and quickly fell in love with nordic skating. Sweden has so many lakes and so much coastline that I know I will never skate them all. Actually, even the same lake can feel completely different from one week to another. That is what makes natural ice skating so addictive.

I am a member of Stockholm’s skating club SSSK and I have completed an ice knowledge course, including a compulsory test falling through the ice. It was an amazing experience and also a very useful one. Now I know how it feels, how safety equipment works in real conditions, and why good decisions matter before anyone steps onto the ice.

Outside winter, I work as a blogger, landscape photographer and wedding photographer. That is why professional photos are included in my skating tours.

Safety First

Natural ice skating is never something to take lightly. Ice conditions can change quickly, and the safest route is not always obvious if you do not know the area.

Safety always decides where we go. I skate first, check the ice continuously with poles, and choose routes based on experience, current reports and conditions on the day. I have guided over 100 trips and no client has fallen through the ice and I am planning to extend this streak also with you 😉 I take route choice, equipment and instructions seriously.

I cannot promise that natural ice is risk-free. What I can promise is that I take safety seriously, use proper equipment, and make careful decisions.

    FAQ

When is the best time for natural ice skating in Stockholm?

The main season for natural ice skating in Stockholm is usually from January to mid-March. In some winters, skating is also possible from November to April, depending on temperature, snow, wind and ice conditions.

Where do your natural ice skating tours take place?

The exact location depends on where the best and safest ice is. Sometimes we skate close to Stockholm, while other times we travel north, south, east or west to find beautiful natural ice on lakes, sea bays or archipelago areas.

Why do you recommend a 3-day natural ice skating tour?

A 3-day natural ice skating tour gives us much more flexibility to follow the best ice conditions. Natural ice changes all the time, so several days make it easier to adjust the route, avoid bad conditions and find unforgettable skating.

Do you offer both private and public ice skating tours?

Yes. I offer private 3-day tours, public open-group 3-day tours, private one-day tours for advanced skaters, private one-day beginner tours, and custom multi-day skating packages for 2 days, 4 days, a week or another length.

Can beginners join a natural ice skating tour?

Yes, beginners can join a private one-day beginner tour with no previous skating experience. For 3-day and longer multi-day tours, you should already know how to skate at least a little, because the days are longer and more active.

Do I need to be an advanced skater for the 3-day tour?

No, you do not need to be an expert. If you have skated before and have normal outdoor fitness, you can usually manage the 3-day tour. Nordic skates are often easier to handle than hockey or figure skates.

What equipment is included in the ice skating tour?

The tour includes Nordic skates and boots, skating poles, ice picks, whistle, rescue line and a safety backpack with waterproof bags. You only need to bring suitable winter clothing for outdoor activity.

    Is natural ice skating safe?

Natural ice skating can never be guaranteed risk-free, which is why local knowledge, route choice and proper safety equipment are essential. Safety always comes first. I check the ice continuously, skate first, and choose the route based on current conditions.

What is included in a multi-day ice skating tour?

Multi-day tours include guiding, transport, skating and safety equipment, lunches in nature, hotel breakfasts, two-course dinners, accommodation planning and professional photos from the adventure.

    Are professional photos included?

Yes. I work as a landscape and wedding photographer outside the winter season, and professional photos from your natural ice skating tour are included.

Can you pick us up from our hotel, train station or airport?

Yes. Pickup and transport are included and can usually be arranged from your hotel, train station, airport or another agreed location in the Stockholm area.

How much does a natural ice skating tour cost?

Each tour is custom quoted depending on dates, group size, transport, accommodation and tour length. Contact me with your preferred dates and number of people, and I will send you a personalised offer.
